I wholeheartedly agree with you that we should not use Mathjax on this site.

However, I think it would be great if we are able to use the stylised LaTeX logo (and TeX and XeTeX ... as well). For example the title of [the LaTeX Wikibook](https://en.wikibooks.org/wiki/LaTeX) is a very nicely-stylised logo.

Of course we won't need Mathjax for this. A quick Google search gives me [this](https://stackoverflow.com/q/8160514) or [this](http://nitens.org/taraborelli/texlogo), etc.

I think we can probably find a compromise someday. Not enabling MathJax by default, but having a way to enable it on demand with a warning about being invalid for use diagnosing specific TeX math issues. Combined with a Fiddle system that used real TeX output, we could greatly reduce the number of images needed (good for many reasons).

It is not just inconvenient (in the sense that others cannot copy and recycle) but also ugly. I feel that, if there was a warning and one would have to press a dedicated button, users should understand that this is meant to help them explain their posts, not to show the output.

I agree with @Skillmon. We have been posting images for so long now, I see no reasons to switch to Mathjax. I don't want to see questions like "I type this in Mathjax and it works, while in LaTeX it does not work", etc.

@JouleV Is it 100% clear that we won't MathJax under no circumstances? Sometimes, when writing an answer that derives something, say for a 3d projection, I find that, ironically, the TeX posts suck because the equations are hard to read. In these situations I wish we had a secret button that allowed me to insert formulae.
