Is there any „prior art“ for this? This seems like a strange choice to me because I guess it puzzles a lot of people.

Why did Python core developers decide to “allow” instantiation of abstract classes (classes that are inheriting from abc.ABC or abc.ABCMeta)? Is it one of those, “we are all responsible adults here. put underscore at the beginning of private properties. don’t access them directly even if you can

They are all good thoughts — and mostly applicable in other communities too. I guess an answer that’s useful for future users is one that explicitly draws out a principle of good coding, so we have to hope that that is the way people will vote in practice

Or maybe I don’t have to come up with a comprehensive draft… and just put the last 3 messages I have here in the Meta Question 🤔

Pax — Friday, 16th Oct 2020 21:52

Also wondering whether CR could be inline with TA’s goal of being a “library of knowledge” — Can CRs ever be crafted so it’s useful for future users?

Pax — Friday, 16th Oct 2020 21:48

So far I have… “Code should already be a working solution?” — thinking through as well what that would look like given TA’s Q&A format.

Pax replying to Jack Douglas — Friday, 16th Oct 2020 21:47

Drafting a guideline for what is eligible for “Code Review” will take time because [reasons]

My thoughts on how to go about that have evolved a bit. You can thank Charles Taylor (among others) 😛

Well, I’d love to discuss that (albeit not necessarily here since I don’t want to deride the Python conversation haha)

I don’t think you have so far claimed to be a database expert but your skills seem to be growing and branching out in all sorts of directions judging by your posts on TA 😉
