Greetings!

I just discovered TopAnswers and I like where everything is going. Currently https://topanswers.xyz redirects to https://topanswers.xyz/meta. I don't believe that this is the best first impression for new users.

I think that some kind of landing page would be really nice to help explain the purpose of the site and help new users get familiar. I understand that with the site being as young as it is, this would likely be a fast changing page, so keeping it succinct would be best initially.

Is this too soon? Is there already one and I just missed it? What do you think?

We now have a new landing page — it is the default page for topanswers.xyz, and gives an overview of our aims, and links to further information on meta.

I hope it is going to meet that purpose, but comments and suggestions for improvement are welcome.

Please also let us know if you spot things that are out of date as time goes by, or new information that really needs to be added when things change.
Feature Request: Landing Page

I think that reducing clutter is key. One idea is to get rid of the edit/view split sections and just display the posts and diffs.
Jack Douglas replying to holmanb
a few half-serious ideas — do you have some thoughts?
holmanb
are there any serious ideas yet on how to improve the diff page?
Jack Douglas
it's especially difficult when there are lots of small changes to a very long post
Jack Douglas replying to holmanb
it doesn't help that the diff page is very primitive at the moment, we have plans for making it a lot easier to navigate
holmanb
If a user knows that a diff will be shown for updated answers it isn't as confusing. I was just unaware that it could happen, so my gut reaction to the diff was: "what am I looking at?" for a few seconds.
Jack Douglas replying to holmanb
there are some bugs in there — I think it currently takes you to answer history even for a new answer, which is clearly wrong — but I personally think linking to the diff for an answer that has been edited makes most sense

I just noticed something strange with the notifications I got on this Q/A. Currently the "Notifications" I've gotten point to the answer-history, not to the old post. This results in seeing a diff if the answer was modified. Is this expected? I find this behavior a little bit counter-intuitive (I would expect to see the most recent answer with perhaps a "view history" option.

The fast response times I've seen so far on TA are so refreshing. I think we all recognize that this will morph with time. looks good to me!

That page was past due for some refactoring. :-)

@Monica thanks for the link I see it is up already…

thanks for the encouragement @David :)

Nice! Also, thanks for the link to Codidact. I'll reciprocate on our wiki when next I edit.

@Jack Like it! 👍 I exepct it will morph rapidly (and has a bit already), but this looks like a great starting point.

I've also answered [this related question](/meta?q=263) which is slightly broader.

How does [this](https://topanswers.xyz/) look for a first attempt?
Monica
@Jack suggestions for content: elevator pitch (a paragraph or so), what communities exist (short list now I know), how do I bring my community here?, and an "if you're coming from SE..." section that talks about importing content and key differences.
