Scala is a widely-used programming language, and it'd be great if TA had a Scala community. There's already an F# community, though, so perhaps a community for functional programming languages could be made?

Oh no, it's not offensive at all. I suppose a lot of Scala questions would be about Java libraries, so that would be great for those questions, although it would (as you said) cause confusion for Scala users later (and probably also for Java users). It's a good temporary solution, though
@user , If you don't find it too offensive, some Scala question would be for now acceptable in the Java community, which isn't exactly crowded or rolling really fast, at least for checking if there's a suitable userbase. I guess that if they are properly tagged, moving them to a new community wouldn't be a problem. This may still later lead to some confusion and I'm not sure how many Scala users would look for them there.
I personally would be interested in an F# feed, but I have no idea if most Scala users would be and I don't know how to get others here, so yeah, I guess it'd be best not to start a community right now.
so for example, would you want an F# feed on the Scala community? It would depend on whether you think most active users of the community would be interested in F# questions
@user, re: [your question](#question), I'm happy to add a scala community, but expect it to take a long time to get going as a viable site unless there are a bunch of other people keen to get the ball rolling. We wouldn't have a functional programming languages community I think, but please take a look at cross-community feeds as each community needs to decide what feeds they want new users to see by default on their home page: https://topanswers.xyz/meta?q=928
