In my opinion, the "star" and "flag" icon of chat messages are too little and too close. It's very easy to make a mistake and click on "flag" instead of "star" (I did it). Could we make them bigger and more distant?

CSS MEdia rules can be useful for tablets/phones. One more option would be some popping-up "magnifier" if mouse cursor is hovered oversoe area for long enough. Obviously, would only work on devices which have mouse and can "hover"
It might be helpful to tag posts like this as "design" so that if someone decides to propose a design overhaul, they can look at already existing proposals.
Good point. I certainly wouldn't mind having to confirm. I don't flag often.
I think most users know this. The problem is more that if you go to chat room for a question, see a message you like, try to star it but in fact flag it, and then leave. Then nobody know who has flagged it and the flag stays. So maybe one could add a pop-up window that asks for confirmation that one really wants to flag?
@CarLaTeX, re: [your question](#question), if you make a msitake, you can just click it again to undo.
Yes, only for the flag. Other than errors, there are no other popups on the site, so this should be surprising enough to read it
and also perhaps the position thing doesn't matter that much anyway — we could even put the flag in the bottom left postion on the second 'page'
@samcarter on second thoughts you probably mean only confirm for flag, which would make sense, it is very rare
@CarLaTeX I agree, and I've done the same myself quite often. The only reason why we haven't increased the size before now is that it increases the minimum height of a chat message (ie a message that does not overflow one line on your screen) — but I think perhaps that matters less than I first thought
that would be another way, but they do [tend to get ignored](https://medium.com/@space.alpaca/double-confirmation-to-be-or-not-to-be-ebae44c0609a) and automatically clicked
it's possible but has one downside: when a message is flagged, the flag icon appears (along with the count), and the position corresponds with the position of the icon you use to add your own flag
