This community is for APL, mainly Dyalog APL, and APL-like languages (e.g. J, K and Q). However, array programming in any language (e.g. NumPy, Julia, and MatLab) is on topic, especially if in comparison to APLs.

No, they are stand-alone informative articles.
No, it is premature. The community is figuring out what to do. I was just keeping APL.TA informed 😃
Shall we switch the site logo to that? I wonder if the grid lines will need to be thicker to be visible in the smaller size, but we could try it and see…
After lots of feedback, including that the font isn’t serious enough, and that a grid design would allude to arrays:
I’ve added BQN386 and set the defaults as you suggested
Is a code review question on-topic here (if it’s written in APL)?
It might also be nice to have some sort of non-blocking reminder about how to write code blocks display if a user types text with APL glyphs not in code.
Segoe UI Symbol is actually very good for APL and almost all of BQN, but isn’t free 😦
True, but fallbacks should kick in. The important thing is to use a font that has ≢.
DejaVu Sans seems to have very poor APL support, with my copy missing even basics like ⌽⌿⌷⎕
.
@Jack Right, then I think DejaVu Sans + BQN386 will be best as DejaVu Sans will at least render APL acceptably when people forget to markdown their code, and BQN386 (being almost identical to APL385) will look most familiar, since the site is mainly Dyalog focused, and APL385 is Dyalog’s go-to font.
It’s less of a problem to fall back in ordinary text, since the possible change in widths won’t look so strange.
I don’t know of any. I haven’t looked into proportional fonts at all.
@Marshall Any proportional font that has acceptable rendering for BQN?
We can add (suitably licensed) fonts no problem, and anyone can change their own font choices. The main question for you to decide is just what font is the default for new users…
Doesn’t that only make it better for APL?
And I may as well link the BQN font comparison page to possibly save readers some downloads.
Things to note about DejaVu BQN Sans Mono (hosted here) are that it has no bold or italic version, and it changes some APL characters to align better. So it’s not entirely a drop-in replacement.
BQN386 is just as good for APL as APL385, so maybe we can simply switch that one out. And sure, I’m happy about adding more fonts.
+←1 I’ve started using Fairfax HD and quite like it
Regarding fonts, can we add options to support plain monospace/serif/sans-serif, and either BQN386 or Fairfax HD? In my wild optimism I’m hoping some people will use BQN here, and in that case they’ll want an option that supports BQN characters like 𝕩⎉⥊
.
Pretty much, but you can create threads which have their own chats by asking a question in the left pane
